Opposition Initiates Bi-partisan E-bike Inquiry

The NSW Opposition has led negotiations within NSW Parliament to launch a new bi-partisan Parliamentary inquiry into the impact of e-bikes and other e-mobility devices within the community.
The inquiry's terms of reference will focus on the role of all three levels of Government in enabling and encouraging safe electrified active transport outcomes.
“For many months now, I have been working with our community and meeting with shared e-bike providers to find solutions to the growing number of dumped e-bikes and the danger or inconvenience they can sometimes pose for our local community,” said Member for Vaucluse, Kellie Sloane.
“E-bikes are currently operating in a chaotic and unregulated market that is rapidly expanding.
Reform is necessary to improve community and rider safety, as well as giving the industry the framework it needs to operate effectively and with community confidence.”
Shadow Minister for Transport Natalie Ward said “We know e-bikes and other e-mobility devices are a positive option for commuters and the community. What we want to know is do we currently have the balance right?”
The inquiry will consider international best-practice from other jurisdictions as well as review the existing regulatory and policy settings.
Ms Sloane said that there will be an opportunity for members of the community, councils, and e-bike providers to provide feedback and submissions and she will keep the community updated in the weeks ahead.
