Appointment as Shadow Minister for Health
Today I begin a new role as NSW Shadow Minister for Health.
I’m grateful for the opportunity afforded me by Opposition leader Mark Speakman and look forward to holding the Government to account over one of its most important responsibilities – the health and wellbeing of the people of NSW.
The NSW public health system is the largest in Australia, with around 176,000 employees, 228 public hospitals, 15 local health districts and 2 specialty networks.
It is currently under pressure with increasing emergency department wait times, backlogs on elective surgery and stagnant ambulance response times. (BHI)
We are blessed in NSW to have such committed nurses, doctors, and healthcare staff as well as world-best facilities. I look forward to working closely with our front-line healthcare workforce and other stakeholders to improve the health of all people in NSW.
Prior to entering politics in 2023, I was CEO of the country’s largest independent preventative health organisation for young people, Life Ed (Healthy Harold). That role gave me unique insights into the health challenges faced by families right across NSW.
For the past year I have been the Shadow Minister for the Environment and hand that role over to James Griffin who also has the portfolios of Energy and Climate Change. While I no longer hold that portfolio, I will continue to be a strong advocate for the environment in the Parliament and in my community.
