Dear Minister
RE: NIELSEN PARK
I am writing to express, on behalf of my community, the deep frustration and concern at the further delays to the seawall reconstruction at Nielsen Park.
I have just been briefed by National Parks and Wildlife Services (NPWS) that the completion date is now forecasted for mid-December 2024.
Last year you forecasted that this project would be completed by April 2024. It has now been 7 months since this deadline. We have been without this beach for two summers and now a third summer is under threat.
These delays are unacceptable. My community will understandably be upset.
I ask for your urgent intervention to ensure the beach will be open before Christmas.
- What action will you take to ensure there are no more delays to this project?
- What is being done by NSW Public Works and NPWS to expedite the rectification of these latest defects?
- Can the stairs be cordoned off for repairs so the public can enjoy the rest of the beach?
- What other options are being considered to enable public access?
- What additional oversight is being provided to ensure there are no more unexpected setbacks?
- Has there been any additional cost to taxpayers due to these delays?
I thank you for your attention to this matter and hope you can provide an urgent response for our community.
