Rose Bay Beach Working Party
Published 26 February 2024
Rose Bay Beach is one of my favourites. Same with my dog Teddy! But, as many locals know, the water quality is a bit hit and miss. It is not advisable to swim at Rose Bay after heavy rain due to high microbial levels caused by sewage overflows entering stormwater drains.
The Beachwatch report classifies the water quality at Rose Bay as “poor”.
I want to acknowledge the efforts of Woollahra Council locals and my predecessor Gabrielle Upton, in forming the Rose Bay Beach Working Party which made significant progress on waste capture systems and increased testing.
Along with Woollahra Mayor Richard Shields and Councillor Mary-Lou Jarvis, I have committed to re-establishing that committee. This week we met for the first time with key government and local stakeholders. Our objective is simple – to return the rating to “good.” I’ll keep you updated on our progress.
Also- if you’re free this Sunday morning please come and join us for our Clean Up Australia Day event at Rose Bay. We’ll be meeting at Tingira Memorial Park around 9:30am.
